Official Android setup

From download to your first push-to-talk call.

Walkie Talkie HRL uses a simple radio-style workflow: install the app, prepare Android audio, enter the right channel, hold to speak and release to listen.

1. Download the official Android APK

The operating app remains hosted by HamRadioList. Use the official download link below, keep Android security scanning enabled and confirm that the app is named Walkie Talkie HRL before installation.

Download version 1.3.28

2. Approve installation from this source

Because the current release is distributed directly, Android may ask you to allow installation from the browser or file manager that opened the APK. Grant the narrow permission, install the app and return that setting to your preferred security state afterward.

3. Enable microphone, audio and notifications

The app needs microphone permission to transmit and audio access to play incoming speech. Android may also require notification permission for background readiness. On supported devices, the phone speaker is the primary output route; Bluetooth can be selected when a compatible device is connected.

4. Choose the correct channel

Public rooms can be selected from the channel list. Private rooms require the unique channel identifier and six-digit passcode supplied by the owner. The nickname selected for the service identifies the participant where room visibility is enabled.

5. Hold to speak and release to listen

Press and hold the large PTT control while speaking. Release it as soon as the message is complete so the room returns to listening. Only one active speaker should hold the channel at a time.

Connection quality

Audio quality depends on the Android device, microphone, speaker or Bluetooth route, network congestion and the usable internet path. The service can operate over Wi-Fi or mobile data, but it cannot create a connection where no internet path exists.
